COVID-19 Special Guidance Terms & Conditions

Things are changing on a near daily basis so please check directly, as we’d like to look at each request on a case by case basis. If you travel is not imminent please defer your enquiry for a few days so we can deal with those people who a impacted right now.

COVID-19 – LEVEL 4 Information

Please see below for the latest updates for the New Zealand Government mandated lock down which is currently due to finish at 23:59PM on the 22nd April 2020.


If you are currently in one of our rental vehicles please be aware that:

  • You are not allowed to travel anywhere in New Zealand during the lockdown period for non-essential travel.
  • You are allowed to travel for essential reasons only, some examples are:
    • If you need to purchase food
    • If you need to visit a doctor or go to a pharmacy
    • To return the vehicle to our depot on your way to the airport, but only if you have a plane ticket booked.

If you have a plane ticket booked and are returning the vehicle on the way to the airport you must contact us on 0800 348 348 or customercare@travellers-autobarn.com, in advance, to advise us you are returning the vehicle.  We will advise you of the return procedure at this time.  You must return the vehicle to our depot which is located 4 km from the airport.

  • If you are due to return the vehicle during the lock down period, i.e. prior to the 23rd April 2020, please contact us a few days before your return date so we can extend your rental accordingly for a reasonable rate. If you would like to extend please write to us via this form and we will get back to you as soon as we can

Please stay safe and avoid all non-essential travel during this period.

COVID-19 Booking, change of dates and cancellation guide

  • Conditions below are applicable to customers picking up before 1st January 2021
  • If you are not booked to pick up your vehicle in the next 28 days please delay your enquiry, and allow us some breathing space to deal with current issues.
  • Any customers wishing to defer, change dates, postpone travel can do so for FREE, without incurring any change fees, The full value of your current booking can be transferred to any future booking if changes are made before 30 APRIL, 2020.


  • Please contact your travel agent and travel insurance company before contacting Travellers Autobarn
  • If you are prevented from travelling by government imposed travel restrictions that are concurrent with your campervan booking, and your travel insurance does not cover you, then please contact Travellers Autobarn and request a credit voucher.
  • The following cancellation fees apply
    • If cancelled up to 8 days of pick-up date: $500 (amount can be used for a future booking)
    • If cancelled within 7 days of pick-up: 50% of the total cost of rental (amount can be applied to a future booking)
    • If cancelled on the day of pick-up or non-appearance: No refund on total cost of rental (amount can be applied to a future booking)


Credit vouchers issued during this period will be transferrable, have no expiry date and can be used in Australia, NZ or USA, fully flexible, no blackout dates, subject to availability.

NEW ZEALAND – Campervan Self-Isolation

You may self-isolate in a fully self-contained camper van but you cannot interact with other campers, for example using shared kitchens or ablution facilities. You can also NOT TRAVEL any further from the 25th of March onwards until the government announces further updates.


Under the terms and conditions it states “There is no monetary refund for early return of a Vehicle. A credit voucher for the unused days in excess of 14 days may be issued if a request for an early return credit voucher has been approved by Travellers Autobarn in writing prior to returning the vehicle”. However if you have lost more than 7 days we are permitting credit vouchers for future travel in Australia, NZ or USA or we can provide the paperwork required to claim on your travel insurance. In all cases we want to work with you towards the best possible outcome. Please contact our reservation team directly via the CHANGE BOOKING REQUEST. Please be aware credit vouchers are only based on the daily rate – we don’t provide credit notes for lost excess reduction packages or any extras. Please also only APPLY after you have returned your VEHICLE!
